Alecto AI app will help women find online porn of themselves

A Chinese woman who discovered a video of her on Pornhub shared without her knowledge decided to create an app to help other women in a similar situation. The app will scan the face and then search the videos online.

Traumatic experience

When a 25-year-old woman found out from her friend that a video featuring her was on the Pornhub platform, she was completely surprised. She had no idea that the video featuring her had been released on an adult video platform. The news left her traumatized.

The incident happened maybe seven years ago. I was really young, a teenager … I had no idea that monster had secretly filmed me until I saw my video on Pornhub – said a woman masquerading as Tisiphon, in honor of the Greek goddess of vengeance. – It was really devastating. I consider myself a very strong person and well educated, but that was the moment when I literally stopped and thought, ‘I can’t live any more. I don’t want to live anymore‘.

In an interview with ‘This Week in Asia‘, a woman confessed that she climbed on the roof of her building with the intention of ending her life and she narrowly missed not surviving it. However, the woman decided that she would fight back and help other women avoid what she herself had experienced.

An app that searches for porn featuring you

As she said in an interview, the most effective way to solve this problem is through facial recognition software – The infringing content is sometimes hosted on various platforms … It is difficult to search for this content scattered all over the internet while being forced to relive our trauma over and over again – said Tisiphone, who worked for the content policy team of a prominent US tech company. – We can’t defend ourselves unless we have access to technology that can help us do so.

That’s why the woman decided to start working on an app called Alecto AI, which is also named after the Greek goddess personifying anger. The app is meant to help women find pornographic content featuring them on the Internet.

The artificial intelligence-based app is expected to scan the face and then search online content. The app will include many security measures such as biometric verification and end-to-end encryption to keep women safe and anonymous. Alecto AI is not supposed to collect any data about users on its server.

The only worrying thing about the app is whether it will have the opposite effect of what was intended. Instead of protecting and helping women find videos of themselves, won’t it become a tool for searching the web to find videos of a specific person whose face was scanned with the app.

We are doing everything we can to protect users’ privacy and make sure that it’s not abused by some random third party. We will continue to enhance our algorithm to make sure it can help people – said Tysyphon in an interview.

The application is to be launched at the end of this year and at the beginning it will be available only after paying a monthly subscription. However, its creator hopes that over time it will be possible to obtain sponsors thanks to which the application will be available to everyone for free.
