Police investigation causes Roksa.pl portal to be closed

According to the police statement, officers in Podlasie have detained 11 people involved in an organized crime group that profited from facilitating prostitution and running one of the largest erotic portals in Poland.

For over a year, the Białystok Prosecutor’s Office and the Police have been looking into the activities of one of the Polish escort portals. The investigation revealed that during the 15 years of the company’s activity, the suspects derived material benefits in the total amount of over 40 million zloty.

Investigators determined that the suspects charged a small fee for each of several thousand escort profiles that appeared on the portal every month. Thus, they gained financial benefits from facilitating other people to engage in prostitution, which according to Polish law is a crime punishable by imprisonment for up to 3 years.

Last week, about 50 police officers arrested 11 people employed by the company that ran the portal in Małopolska. Among them was the 43-year-old owner of the company and his 39-year-old brother, who were additionally charged with establishing and managing an organised criminal group. Other people, aged between 31 and 42, who were employed to operate the website were charged with participation in an organised criminal group dealing in profiteering from pimping. The Penal Code provides for a penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment for setting up and leading an organized criminal group, and up to 5 years for participating in it.

Although the police officers did not explicitly state that the detention concerns the owners of the Roksa.pl, nobody in Poland has any doubts that the mystery of the website’s suspension has just been solved.
