Erotic store recognized as the most professional service provider in Wellington

Adulttoymegastore, New Zealand’s largest online adult products store, has won the Supporting Gold award at the 2021 Wellington Gold Awards. This made it the first adult store to be both a finalist and winner in the 23-year history of the annual business awards.

Adulttoymegastore was founded in 2009 in Te Aro, Wellington, where it is New Zealand’s largest online retailer of adult toys. The company ships its products to 11 countries and boasts nearly 350% revenue growth since 2017.

The erotic store won the Supporting Gold category, which recognizes the best infrastructure and professional services providers in Wellington. Other finalists in this category included Fulton Hogan, Lowe & Co Realty, Cuttriss Consultants, Quantum Security Services and The Akina Foundation.

Nicola Relph, owner of Adulttoymegastore, personally accepted the award and said that winning this prestigious award is a testament to the fact that sex toys and sexual wellness are becoming an increasingly important part of New Zealanders’ lives.

When we founded Adulttoymegastore in Wellington in 2009, we certainly didn’t think we’d ever be a finalist in mainstream awards like the Wellington Gold Awards, let alone winning them. In fact, sex toys carried a stigma. But we wanted to remove that by creating a clean, inviting, safe and discreet online shopping experience for New Zealanders to buy adult toys. We wanted to educate people about sexual wellness, remove the stigma, and normalise pleasure. Twelve years on, we’re proud to be New Zealand’s leading online retailer for everything adult.

This award proves that sex toys have finally made it to mainstream New Zealand. We’re so thankful to our loyal customers, and to New Zealand, for being open minded about the concept of sexual wellness and we’re so proud to be part of the driving force behind the normalisation of pleasure in New Zealand – said store owner.

Supporting Gold is not the first award the online retailer has won. In 2018, the company won the People’s Choice Award for Hottest Ecommerce Experience at the Retail Hotlist Awards. And in 2019, Adulttoymegastore won the Hottest Use of Data award at the Gem Retail Hotlist Awards and the OmniChannel Award at the Retail NZ Awards.

The recognition the New Zealand company is receiving is an example to the entire erotic industry. By setting high service standards and running a business in a professional manner, it is possible to not only compete, but win against other industries, despite people’s continued very cautious attitudes towards erotic toys and sexuality.
