You come back from work, to relax for a while you sit on the couch and check what’s happening on Facebook and Instagram. And yet a few days ago, on October 4, 2021, this well-known for many ritual could not be performed because Zuckerberg’s social networks were down. In that case, what helped people around the world to relax after work? With the answer comes Pornhub.
Both Facebook, Instagram, as well as Messenger and Whatsapp were unavailable for several hours around the world. It was not the first such case and certainly not the last yet. However, as we know social networks play an important role in the modern world and the absence of the biggest ones had to be replaced somehow.
Pornhub, shared the statistics of its traffic during the Facebook crash. You can find that from 3pm CET, traffic on Pornhub increased significantly and at around 4pm CET will reach a result of +10.5% above average, which, according to Pornhub, equals about half a million additional users for every hour that Facebook services were down.

This is an impressive result that shows that Pornhub is still able to attract millions of users from all over the world. However, the interesting thing to note is comparing this data, to the results from the previous outage, which took place in March 2019.
Two years ago, before the New York Times published ‘The Children of Pornhub‘ article, which caused Pornhub to lose not only millions of videos but also users, the statistics looked much better.
Almost immediately as soon as the social media platforms went offline two years ago, Pornhub’s traffic rose +11% above average, which is already more than the best result from a few days ago. And at its peak, Pornhub traffic climbed as much as +19% above average.
Comparing these figures clearly shows how all the controversies involving Pornhub in recent months have significantly reduced the number of users of once the most popular adult site in the world.
