The popular website Clips4Sale.com and their legal counsel Corey D. Silverstein won their case against the owners of the website ‘Clips4Slae.com‘. The site, with a confusingly similar name, was found to have been created with intentional bad faith.
Clips4Sale.com (C4S) is a popular adult site offering video clips for purchase and download. The site is commonly used for content distribution by small studios that create adult clips. Unfortunately, the site’s high popularity has led to individuals in various parts of the world who want to fraudulently exploit the site’s brand and reputation in order to attract and decive C4S users.
To protect their interests, C4S and adult industry attorney Corey D. Silverstein, founder of Silverstein Legal and subscription service Adult.Law, filed a complaint regarding ‘Clips4Slae‘ with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center on January 6, 2022. After following the proper procedure and conducting an in-depth investigation, WIPO found that the domain was registered in bad faith.
In this particular case, WIPO found that the disputed domain name was clearly chosen by deliberate misspelling of the Clips4Sale trademark. WIPO wrote that this was a “a clear case of intentional misspelling of the Complainant’s trademark, or typosquatting.” The owner of shady domain did not respond to the accusation, resulting in WIPO ordering the transfer of the ‘Clips4Slae‘ domain to Clips4Sale.
“I’m very pleased with WIPO’s decision in this matter. In this particular case, the registrant erroneously believed that it could hide in China,” Silverstein said. “Brazen attempts to steal someone else’s intellectual property is not tolerable, and Clips4Sale will not hesitate to act to protect its brand and users.”
